Today, more than ever before, America is sending young people to college and university campuses to continue their educations after graduating from high school. The U.S. Department of Education predicts that the number of students attending college will grow at an average rate of 1.9% annually over the next 10 years as parents and communities are increasingly motivated to send high school graduates on to college in response to the nation’s demand for a more educated workforce.
As the tide of students grows, university campuses are poorly equipped to house the influx of students hoping to earn their degrees. Nationwide, the shortage of student housing facilities leaves 4.4 million full-time students in search of alternative housing each year. The opportunity exists in both the public and private sector for investors and universities to profit while providing much needed housing for an ever increasing pool of students.
